Overview
If you’re looking for a relaxing lunch with beautiful lake views, elegant surroundings, and excellent French cuisine, Hakone Hotel is one of the best choices in Hakone.

Every time I visit Hakone Hotel, it reminds me of a lakeside resort in Europe. With its elegant architecture, peaceful atmosphere, and beautiful setting beside Lake Ashi, it’s easy to forget how busy the sightseeing area just outside the hotel can be.
Whenever my husband and I visit the Lake Ashi area, Hakone Hotel is one of our favorite places to stop for lunch.
I first visited after enjoying an unforgettable French course meal, and I’ve wanted to return ever since.

Lunch at Il Miraggio

After walking through the lobby and heading downstairs, I arrived at the restaurant.
Lunch is served at Il Miraggio, the hotel’s French restaurant.

While Hakone is best known for Japanese cuisine, this is one of the few places where you can enjoy excellent French food in such a beautiful lakeside setting.
The restaurant is bright and elegant, with high arched ceilings and large windows overlooking Lake Ashi.

I was dining alone that day, and since it wasn’t busy, I was shown to a window seat.
While I originally planned to order the French lunch course, I discovered they were holding a seasonal omelet rice fair instead.

I couldn’t resist trying the Japanese-style Omelet Rice with Plum Sauce (¥1,700).
Lunch began with a fresh salad served with Fujiya Hotel’s original dressing.

The omelet rice was topped with fluffy eggs, shiso leaves, and a generous plum sauce.

It was so delicious that I couldn’t help telling one of the staff how much I enjoyed it.
I also added the dessert and coffee set (+¥1,400).

Watching the sightseeing boats quietly cross Lake Ashi while enjoying dessert made it easy to forget about time.
The service was warm, professional, and never intrusive. Every dish arrived at just the right moment, making the entire lunch feel wonderfully relaxed.
Considering the quality of the food, service, and atmosphere, I thought it offered excellent value.
A Walk Through the Lakeside Garden
After lunch, I spent some time walking through the hotel’s lakeside garden.

Benches along the shore provide a peaceful place to sit and enjoy the scenery.
Since the pirate ship terminal is only a short walk away, it’s also a great place to relax before your cruise instead of waiting before boarding the pirate ship.

Is Hakone Hotel Lunch Worth It?
Absolutely.
The elegant atmosphere, beautiful views of Lake Ashi, attentive service, and carefully prepared French cuisine come together to create one of the most relaxing lunch experiences in Hakone.
Because the menu changes with the seasons, I already have a reason to return.
After spending such a peaceful afternoon here, I left thinking that I’d love to stay here next time.
