Hotel Okada(ホテルおかだ) is one of the most well-known ryokan in Hakone-Yumoto and had been on my list for a long time.
During my stay at Hakone no Mori Okada, I had access to Hotel Okada’s hot springs and shared facilities, and the experience honestly surprised me.
From the moment I stepped inside, the high ceilings and spacious public areas created a completely different atmosphere from the neighboring properties.

I also noticed many international guests enjoying their stay, which added to the relaxed feeling throughout the hotel.
Compared with Hakone no Mori Okada or Yunosato Okada, the difference was immediately noticeable.
The higher price isn’t just for a room—it’s reflected in the space, the atmosphere, and the overall experience.

If you’re looking for a ryokan where you can slow down and enjoy the atmosphere of Hakone, I think Hotel Okada is well worth considering.

Observation Terrace & Foot Bath
The highlight of my visit was definitely the Observation Terrace.
It’s pleasant during the day, but at night it becomes something special.
Looking out over the illuminated hot spring town, I almost felt as if I had stepped into another world.

From here, I could see the lights of Hotel Nanpuso across the valley.
When I visited, several other guests were also sitting here, chatting quietly while enjoying the night view.

Inside the terrace area are comfortable sofas, and outside there’s a foot bath overlooking the mountains of Hakone.

Spending time there after a bath became one of my favorite memories of the visit.
Onsen

The first thing I noticed was the amount of hot spring water.
Fresh water continuously flows into both the indoor and outdoor baths, and you can actually hear it pouring into the pools.

The baths are spacious and never felt crowded.
The only downside for me was the outdoor bath during the daytime.

Because there isn’t much shade, the sunlight can feel quite strong.
Some parts of the facility also show their age, but everything was clean and well maintained.
Guests can also visit Yunosato Okada for a small onsen-hopping experience.
However, you’ll need to change into a yukata and walk outside for about three minutes.
After trying both, I personally preferred staying at Hotel Okada and relaxing there rather than moving between the two facilities.

Rooms
The hotel offers a variety of room types, including Japanese-style rooms, Western-style rooms, and Japanese-Western rooms.
The rooms with private open-air baths especially caught my attention.

Each room has its own design, but they all share a calm atmosphere with traditional Japanese touches.

Dining
Although I didn’t have a chance to dine here, the hotel offers a choice of seasonal kaiseki cuisine or a buffet.
The buffet is served in the Sky Lounge with beautiful views.

Watching sushi chefs prepare fresh sushi right in front of guests makes it look a little more special than a typical hotel buffet.

Location
Hotel Okada is located in the Takidori Onsen area, where several ryokan are gathered together.
Although it’s only a short distance from Hakone-Yumoto Station, it feels much quieter than the busy shopping streets around the station.
Surrounded by mountains, rivers, and the sounds of nature, it feels like a traditional hot spring retreat.
I personally preferred this peaceful atmosphere over staying closer to the station.
Who Should Stay Here?
I think Hotel Okada is a great choice for:
✔ Travelers who want to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan
✔ Couples and families looking for a relaxing getaway
✔ Visitors who enjoy spending time at the hotel itself
✔ Guests who appreciate spacious public areas and beautiful scenery
✔ Anyone who wants to enjoy hot springs in a calm and elegant atmosphere

Final Thoughts
After spending time here, I understood why Hotel Okada has such a strong reputation in Hakone-Yumoto.
The difference isn’t just the size of the building or the facilities.
It’s the overall feeling of quality and quiet luxury that you notice throughout the property.

The spacious public areas, the calm atmosphere, and the time spent relaxing after a bath all made me slow down and enjoy the trip a little more.
I left thinking that choosing the right ryokan can completely change the quality of a Hakone stay.
If you’re looking for a traditional Japanese ryokan with beautiful public spaces, excellent hot springs, and a relaxed atmosphere, Hotel Okada is a place I would happily recommend.
