A Taste of Vietnam in Odawara

The rainy season is almost here.
After yesterday’s rain, Odawara felt hot and humid today.

On days like this, I just really crave Asian food..

Around Odawara Station, you can find a surprisingly wide variety of authentic Asian restaurants, including Thai, Vietnamese, and Indian cuisine.

Today, I stopped by a Vietnamese restaurant that I had been curious about for quite some time.

The name is “Bon-chan,” and it is located on the second floor of a building along the shopping street.

The building is covered with green plants, and even from the outside, it already feels like a little piece of Vietnam.

I was welcomed by a very friendly Vietnamese woman.

There were no other customers yet, so I took a seat by the window.

The atmosphere inside really felt like Vietnam.

Outside the window, there was deep green scenery, and the breeze coming through the room made it easy to forget that I was still inside a shopping street in Odawara.

Most lunch sets were around 1,000 yen.
I ordered the beef pho lunch set (1,045 yen including tax).

It came with pho, fresh spring rolls, a drink, and dessert.

Steam was rising from the bowl when it arrived at the table.

So, how was the food?

To be honest, it was a little different from what I expected.

I had imagined something with a much stronger Asian flavor and lots of cilantro, but the taste was much milder than I expected.

It felt more adjusted to Japanese tastes.
