Today, Odawara was blessed with a bright blue sky.
It was the kind of refreshing weather Japan calls 「Satsuki-bare」 — literally “May clear skies,” meaning bright, beautiful early-summer weather.
So, just after lunchtime, I headed out for a walk to the beach.
Walking to Miyuki Beach
Miyuki Beach is less than a 20-minute walk from Odawara Staiton.

After passing through the small tunnel leading toward the sea, the view suddenly opens up to the ocean.

Today was so clear that I could see the Miura Peninsula and Izu Oshima floating in the distance.

Before the summer beach season begins, the shore is calm and peaceful.
Only the sound of the waves — zabooon… zabooon… — echoes across the beach.
It feels like time slows down here.

Gelato by the Sea
After the walk, I stopped at Ryugudo for a gelato break.

This small retro-style gelato shop is located near the beach.
They make handmade gelato using local fruits and vegetables from the Odawara area.
It’s a popular spot among locals.
Because the beach is just nearby, we can buy gelato and enjoy it by the sea.
It’s one of the best ways to spend a relaxing afternoon here.

The small shop itself is also charming and has a nostalgic local atmosphere.
So it’s also nice to enjoy your gelato inside the cozy shop or at the terrace seats along the street.
I ordered a double scoop:
- Rum raisin
- Ashigara green tea
(550 yen including tax)

The Ashigara tea flavor was especially good — rich, slightly bitter, and deeply refreshing.
Sitting there with the sea breeze coming through the open space made the moment even more relaxing.

Strolling Along Kamaboko Street

This historic street is lined with traditional kamaboko (Japanese fish cake) shops, many of which have been operating for generations.
The old-style buildings and local atmosphere make it one of the most charming areas in Odawara.

I visited Urokokichi(鱗吉), a long-established kamaboko shop.
You can enjoy local food, sake, and even a foot bath here.

This time, I ordered their grilled jinenjo fish cake stick for takeaway.(600 yen including tax)

After ordering, the staff carefully torched the surface until slightly charred.
It was served with an incredibly delicious tartar sauce and a small cup of cold tea.
I sat on the bright red bench outside and enjoyed every bite.
Simple, local, handmade — and absolutely delicious.
