If you love hot springs, Yoshiike Ryokan is one of those places you’ll probably hear about sooner or later.
The ryokan is famous for its abundant natural hot spring water, and many onsen enthusiasts visit specifically for the baths.
Located just a short walk from Hakone-Yumoto Station, Yoshiike Ryokan is a historic Japanese inn known for its beautiful garden and traditional atmosphere.
While many visitors come for the garden, the hot springs are what keep drawing me back.
The good news is that you don’t need to stay overnight to enjoy them.
Yoshiike Ryokan welcomes day visitors, making it easy to experience both its excellent hot springs and traditional ryokan atmosphere, even on a short visit.
In this review, I’ll share my experience and explain why I think Yoshiike Ryokan is one of the best day-use onsens in Hakone.

Authentic Natural Hot Spring Water
One of the things that makes Yoshiike Ryokan special is the quality of its hot spring water.
The ryokan owns six private hot spring sources and supplies its baths with 100% natural hot spring water flowing directly from the source.

With a maximum output of approximately 720 liters per minute, it is known for having one of the largest hot spring yields in Hakone.
The water feels remarkably soft and gentle on the skin.
Even after leaving the bath, I often notice that the warmth lingers for quite a while.
It’s easy to see why Yoshiike Ryokan has become such a popular destination among hot spring enthusiasts.

An Open-Air Bath Overlooking a Japanese Garden
The open-air bath is one of my favorite parts of visiting Yoshiike Ryokan.
From the bath, I can enjoy views of the ryokan’s beautiful Japanese garden.
Soaking in natural hot spring water while looking out over carefully maintained trees, ponds, and seasonal flowers feels incredibly peaceful.
Although Hakone has many excellent hot springs, few offer this combination of traditional garden scenery and authentic natural hot spring water.

A Rare All-Hinoki Cypress Bath
Hinoki baths have long been associated with luxury ryokan, temples, and other prestigious Japanese buildings.
Today, however, authentic all-hinoki baths have become increasingly rare due to the challenges of maintaining them.
I especially enjoy the hinoki bath at Yoshiike Ryokan, which is made entirely of Japanese cypress wood.
The moment I step into the bath, I notice the gentle fragrance of hinoki.
I have always loved the scent of hinoki, and soaking in the hot spring while enjoying its natural aroma is one of the things I look forward to most when I visit.
The fragrance is subtle rather than strong, which makes it feel even more relaxing.

A Short Walk Through the Garden After Your Bath
After soaking in the hot springs, I spent some time walking through the garden.
The expansive Japanese garden is one of Yoshiike Ryokan’s most famous features and adds to the overall experience.
If you’re interested in the garden itself, I have written a separate article that explores it in more detail.
